Festival 2023 Bulletin #4

Updated: Apr 7, 2022

Dear paddlers,

From today it is exactly one year until you will be in New Zealand for the start of the IBCPC New Zealand BCS festival 2023. Start the 365-day countdown from now.

It is also only 82 days until registration closes on the 30th June 2022. Don’t miss out on this amazing event bringing together breast cancer paddlers, supporters, friends and family from across the globe. It is going to be epic.

In late March the NZ Prime Minister announced the removal of most restrictions, with no limit on the size of outdoor gatherings from the 26th March. The borders are open, the New Zealand vaccine mandates and vaccine passes have gone (currently only pre departure and arrival tests are in place) and even better news, Air New Zealand is starting direct flights from Auckland to New York.

** Note that some airlines may still require vaccine passes.

New York is such a great stop off point from Europe, it is a place of hustle and bustle, glamour and excitement, romance and nostalgia. Everything is bigger and brighter in New York – they say it is a city more magical than anywhere else you’ve been. You can now book your direct non-stop flights taking off from 17th September this year.

With a non-stop flight from Auckland and New York, if you’re looking to go further afield, Air New Zealand’s partnership with United Airlines gets you to a whole lot more places across the US, Canada and the UK. For those wanting to explore more of Europe, thanks to Air New Zealand’s network of partnerships, customers can fly to the likes of Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Vienna, Brussels, Copenhagen, Helsinki and Stockholm. It will sure be exciting to see the mangōpare (Māori tail design) on the 787 aircraft tails lined up at JFK Airport, it will be an iconic moment.

Dates to put in the diary:

Registration closes: 30th June 2022.

To secure your registration the non-refundable deposit must also be paid.

Final payment due: 31st August 2022.

Individual registration information:

Paddlers and supporters will be able to enter their data into our Revolution Sports platform from 1st August 2022 to 30th September 2022. More information will be provided later.

All requirements that we need you to provide will be on the individual registration platform i.e. medical certificates, fitness to participate, dietary requirements, T-shirt sizes etc.

We also wanted to let you know that for the first month of autumn/fall the temperatures have been unseasonably warm in Hamilton, Cambridge, Tauranga and Rotorua sitting at between 22 and 28 degrees with gorgeous blue-bird blue sky days. Let’s hope it is exactly like that one year from now.

Nga mihi,

Festival organising committee.

We understand that the New Zealand borders might be open to individual travelers from other countries but will the New Zealand government allow 4,000+ people from other countries to come to one small area of New Zealand all at the same time for one week? We should be informed that you have verified this with your government health authorities.
